From After-School to After-Graduation: How FrankTown Builds a Path to Lifelong Success
In the heart of Franklin, Tennessee, FrankTown Open Hearts is rewriting the narrative for under-resourced youth. Through a comprehensive blend of academic support, spiritual mentorship, vocational training, and life skills development, FrankTown is building more than just after-school programs—it’s building futures. Every day, this faith-based nonprofit ensures that children from low-income households are not only seen and supported, but set on a path to success that leads from after school activities to cap-and-gown graduation moments, and far beyond. The results are undeniable, with 100% of its graduates launching into meaningful next steps after high school. This is more than intervention—it’s transformation.
A Comprehensive Support System Rooted in Relationships
At the core of FrankTown Open Hearts is its dedication to meeting kids where they are, literally and figuratively. Each weekday, the organization provides transportation to and from its programs—eliminating a major barrier that often keeps children from accessing after-school resources. Once they arrive, students receive hot, nutritious meals and are welcomed into a nurturing, structured environment. Programs run four nights per week and include tutoring, homework help, recreational activities, Bible study, and mentorship from adult volunteers who consistently show up and invest in these kids’ lives.
More than just educational support, FrankTown focuses on relational consistency. Many of the youth we serve benefit from the consistent guidance and support offered at FrankTown, especially those who come from diverse home environments. FrankTown fills that gap, pairing students with caring mentors who stick with them year after year. This consistency builds trust and self-esteem, forming the bedrock for each child’s long-term success. High school students benefit from ACT prep, help with college applications, and exposure to different career options—giving them a tangible vision for their future.
Vocational Training That Builds Confidence and Career Readiness
While academic support is critical, FrankTown knows that not every student is bound for college—and that’s okay. That’s why the organization offers a hands-on vocational training program that opens doors to skilled trades and meaningful careers. Students can explore automotive repair, woodworking, culinary arts, sewing, and even STEAM-related disciplines like coding and robotics. These are not one-time workshops, but ongoing classes taught by professionals who generously volunteer their time and expertise.
The automotive program is one of FrankTown’s most inspiring examples. Here, students learn how to maintain and repair donated vehicles, gaining real-world mechanic experience while performing a powerful act of service: the restored vehicles are then given to single moms and families in need. It’s a win-win—students learn marketable skills while being part of something bigger than themselves. This approach boosts confidence, cultivates a strong work ethic, and prepares young people for life after high school, whether they pursue further training, enter the workforce, or start their own business.

Real Results: Graduation and Beyond
FrankTown’s programs don’t just feel good—they deliver results. Over the last nine years, 100% of FrankTown seniors have successfully graduated from high school. That’s a staggering statistic, especially when compared to national averages for students from low-income families. But FrankTown doesn’t stop at the graduation stage. Every one of those graduates has gone on to pursue a productive path: whether that’s college, trade school, an internship, or direct employment.
This success is no accident. It stems from years of consistent investment in each child’s academic, emotional, and spiritual development. By introducing students to real-world skills, strong role models, and a community of support, FrankTown disrupts the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. Their work proves that when youth are given tools, time, and people who believe in them, they rise to the occasion—and beyond it.

Powered by the Community, For the Community
FrankTown’s impact doesn’t end with the kids it serves. The organization is deeply woven into the Franklin community through its outreach events, partnerships, and volunteer network. Its most well-known event is the annual FrankTown Festival of Lights—a festive, drive-through holiday light show that draws thousands of visitors and raises crucial funds for the organization’s programs. It’s a celebration of joy, generosity, and local unity.
Beyond fundraising, FrankTown invites the community to take an active role through volunteering, mentoring, or becoming a Heartbeat Partner—committed monthly donors who ensure stability and sustainability. Businesses, churches, and individuals alike contribute resources, expertise, and time to fuel FrankTown’s mission. This shared effort creates a ripple effect that goes beyond the kids; it uplifts entire families and strengthens the fabric of the city itself.
A Vision That’s Just Getting Started
FrankTown Open Hearts isn’t resting on its success. With a growing waitlist and expanding programs, the organization is pursuing a bold vision: a 16,000-square-foot permanent facility that will consolidate all of its programming under one roof. This future campus will include classrooms, vocational shops, meeting spaces, and areas for recreation—allowing FrankTown to serve even more children, more effectively.
The dream is ambitious, but so is the need. As the organization grows, so does its commitment to ensuring that no child in Franklin is left behind. With community support, FrankTown is building more than a building—it’s building a legacy of opportunity, dignity, and hope that will echo through generations. From after-school snacks to graduation caps, FrankTown is walking alongside youth every step of the way.
